Autopsy Reveals Cause Of Death For Pantera Co-Founder Vinnie Paul

first_imgOn June 22nd, the music world was saddened by the news that Vinnie Paul Abbott, better known as Vinnie Paul, had passed away. The drummer/co-founder of cult favorite Texas-native groove metal outfit, Pantera, died in his sleep in his Las Vegas home after an apparent cardiac episode. He was 54 years old. Now, a coroner’s report into Pauls death has determined that the drummer died as a result of a pre-existing heart condition, reports Las Vegas’ KTNV. According to the Clark County Coroners Paul suffered from “dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition which restricts the heart’s ability to pump blood, as well as a severe coronary artery disease. As a representative from Vinnie’s camp explained in a statement,Vincent Paul Abbott died from natural causes, specifically, dilated cardiomyopathy. Severe coronary artery disease was identified as a significant condition to the cause of death according to the official report submitted by the Clark County Coroner’s office. We ask that you please continue to respect the privacy of the family and friends of Vinnie Paul. No further statement will be issued.Vinnie’s untimely death compounded the lingering feelings of loss felt by friends, family, and fans since his brother and Pantera co-founder, Dimebag Darrell, was shot and killed along with several others when a gunman climbed onstage and opened fire during a performance by their post-Pantera project, Damageplan. On Saturday, June 30th, thousands of fans gathered for a public memorial service in his native Texas at Dallas’ The Bomb Factory. The public memorial featured a video tribute from former Pantera singer Phil Anselmo, who had been estranged from Abbott for many years prior to his passing. In his first comments on Abbott’s death, Anselmo said, “Vince, always have love in my heart for you, man. Rest in peace.” Watch footage of the entire memorial service below:Vinnie Paul Public Memorial Service[Video: Rock Feed]Countless musicians paid their respects and honored Vinnie Paul in the days following his death. SMC’s Career Crossings Office hosts online job search webinar

first_imgAs everyday life changes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, so does student’s ability to search for jobs and internships. On April 8, Saint Mary’s Career Crossings Office will hold a “Job/Internship Searching in COVID-19” webinar for students from 3 – 4:30 p.m. EST.Students can register for the presentation on a Google Form and will receive a Google Calendar invite to access the webinar. Registrants will receive a recording of the session and access to the resources used during the webinar over an email sent when the event concludes.Career Crossings director and event coordinator Stacie Jeffirs said the online presentation will center on helping students refocus their job search under the coronavirus’ new circumstances.“[The presentation] will discuss how to navigate uncertainty during COVID-19 as it relates to the job and internship search. This will include how to create a structured plan for yourself that will help you move forward, learning to manage what is within your control and using what we know now to effectively adjust to the ‘new normal’ of a search being done entirely remotely,” Jeffirs said.Jeffirs reminds students about the importance of connecting with alumnae to find new opportunities. She will do this by discussing how students and alumnae can tap into the alumnae network, which Jeffirs said is more important now than ever. While the online search process remains the same, Jeffirs said students need to be prepared to interview and work remotely.“The things that have changed are how you network, interview and connect with people,” Jeffirs said. “You might see employers onboarding and orienting new employees virtually and starting in a new role remotely. Some employers may choose to move summer internships completely virtual. Students should be having these conversations with their employers to determine what the best course of action is.”Jeffirs advises students to make a schedule and reflect on their accomplishments in order to remain motivated in their search. Emphasizing students take the time to care for themselves and reach out to others to support them in their search.“Creating and maintaining a routine where you provide structure for your search is also important,” Jeffirs said. “Decide what strategies you will employ, create daily/weekly goals for yourself, schedule out the time in your search and assess your progress each week. Self-care is very important at this moment. This includes physical, emotional and spiritual. Tapping into support systems is crucial so that you don’t become isolated in your search.”The Career Crossings Office is committed to working with students and alumnae remotely during all parts of their job search, Jeffirs said. Career Crossings will also send out a Google Form to students to determine topics for future sessions.“Our office is providing all of our services remotely during this time and we provide lifetime services for graduates,” Jeffirs said. We can help with the search process, writing effective resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, discerning options, and back-up plans and all other career development needs. Our office will also be launching a survey to learn more about the career needs of students and summer/post-grad plans for students. This will help us build out more sessions and services to meet these needs.”Career Crossings is open year-round and is currently offering virtual office hours on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. EST, Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. EST, and Thursdays from 2 – 5 p.m. EST. The office can be reached at [email protected] to schedule a phone or Google Meet appointment.Tags: Alumnae, coronavirus, Saint Mary’s Career Crossings Officelast_img read more

Housing stocks see split reaction on coronavirus vaccine news

first_img– Advertisement – All this, however, looks like good news for the big apartment REITs, like Equity Residential, Avalonbay, and UDR. Apartments not only benefit when the cost of housing goes up, but there is clearly a feeling that a vaccine will get people back to work, back to the nation’s downtowns and turn urban flight around.“Clearly there is enthusiasm, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that rents are down over 20% in many of the major urban gateway markets, with companies still letting employees work from home into middle of 2021,” said Alexander Goldfarb, a REIT analyst with Piper Sandler. “There is a lot more earnings pressure to come.”Goldfarb is also concerned that there are other social and economic ramifications that could keep people from rushing back to the urban core, especially on the coasts, where Covid restrictions have been tighter and local economies have suffered more. Homebuilder stocks are taking a hit, while apartment REITs are finally crawling out of the basement amid a massive market rally sparked by Pfizer’s announcement Monday that early trial data show its coronavirus vaccine to be highly effective. As investors digest the news, suddenly the pandemic housing picture looks a little different. The nation’s homebuilders have been benefiting from the stay-at-home culture of Covid, as people looked for larger, more high-tech homes in the suburbs. Working and schooling from home had been top of mind, but an effective vaccine could reverse that.- Advertisement – Stocks of the biggest builders like DR Horton, Lennar, Pulte and luxury builder Toll Brothers, were down at midday Monday. The iShares U.S. Homebuilding ETF, which includes home improvement retailers like Home Depot, Sherwin Williams and Masco, was also taking a hit.Part of that also has to do with mortgage rates, which set yet another record low last week but appeared to be turning around Monday with a sell-off in the bond market. Mortgage rates follow loosely the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury, which surged to the highest level since March.“Bond weakness is starting to snowball in a way we haven’t seen since the crazy volatility in March, and this time around there are no concerns about liquidity and smooth market functioning,” said Matthew Graham, chief operating officer at Mortgage News Daily. “That makes the current move very serious.”- Advertisement –center_img Rick Nazarro of Colonial Manor Realty talks with a pair of interested buyers in the driveway as a couple waits to enter a property he is trying to sell during a “controlled” open house on May 2, 2020 in Revere, MA.Blake Nissen | Boston Globe | Getty Images – Advertisement –last_img read more

Volleyball deserves more fan support

first_imgThe USC men’s volleyball team, has a rich tradition of success, including four NCAA championships and 12 Final Four appearances.Over the last couple years, USC coach Bill Ferguson has directed the USC men’s volleyball team back to the top of the collegiate volleyball hierarchy; his teams have been synonymous with the word “success.”In just his first year coaching in 2007, Ferguson guided USC to its best season since 2001. Two years ago, he led the team to the NCAA championship game. And this year, the Trojans (19-2, 18-2) are off to their best start since 1994 and have already clinched the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title. But as the team has grown increasingly dominant, student support has simultaneously been shrinking. As good as the volleyball team has been, it’s unfortunate that not many students show their faces inside the Galen Center for home games. There is definitely a ton of cardinal out there, but it’s not fans — it’s empty seats. And you know it’s not good when you start getting emails from USC athletics advertising that the first 500 fans get something free just to come out to the match.Yes, volleyball might not get the same national media attention as basketball or football, but I’d argue it’s just as exciting.Who doesn’t want to see Murphy Troy six-pack an opposing player?Even when the men’s basketball team was hit with sanctions a year ago and banned from playing in the postseason, students decked out in Trojan Fever shirts filled the entire student section as if they were playing for something. And no matter how bad this season’s losses to teams like Rider, Cal and Oregon were, the men’s basketball team still had support from the student body. The USC men’s volleyball team is just as exciting and features one of the most dominant players in collegiate volleyball in senior opposite Murphy Troy.Troy, a contender for National Player of the Year, has already etched his name into the USC record books, compiling 1,812 kills, 133 aces and 31 matches with 20-plus kills. All of these are USC scoring-rally era records.Alongside Troy, the Trojans boast one of the more accomplished senior classes in USC volleyball history including, senior setter Riley McKibbin, senior outside hitter Tri Bourne and senior middle blocker Austin Zahn. This year, USC is poised to make a deep run into the NCAA tournament and challenge for  the NCAA title. And even though this core group will be leaving, next year holds even more promise for the Trojans.Ferguson has managed to bring in a recruiting class featuring Micah Christenson, a 6-foot-5 setter from Hawaii, Cristian Rivera, a 6-foot-6 outside hitter from Puerto Rico, and Robert Feathers, a 6-foot-8 middle blocker from Loyola High in Los Angeles. All three have distinguished resumés, and along with these three newcomers, USC will also bring back junior outside hitter Tony Ciarelli and junior middle blocker Steven Shandrick.Nobody has a problem supporting the men’s basketball team, even when times are tough, so all I ask is that you take a trip down to the Galen Center when the USC men’s volleyball team is playing. In an all-important matchup against crosstown rival UCLA tonight, you can give the Trojans that homecourt advantage. You’ll be watching a group of men just as talented — and arguably more exciting to watch — and you won’t regret it. “In the Zone” runs Thursdays. To comment on this article visit dailytrojan.com or email Trevor at [email protected]last_img read more

Skipper Daud Abdullahi Tubal scored a late consolation goal for the Somalia team. After 3 minutes Kaddu converted a penalty after he was brought down by Abdiwali Abdirahman Mohamed in the box. The Somalian team tried to play a highly defensive game, but the home team kept attacking before Kyambadde made it 2-0 after 37 minutes.Kaddu scored another penalty after 43 minutes after Ayam Mohamed Hussein brought down Uganda’s Allan Kayiwa in the box. After the interval the two sides made some chances. Mohamud Addinur Mohamed had an open chance to score for Somalia after 46 minutes but shot wide. Two minutes later Kaddu netted his third goal with a well taken header off a Mustafa Kiiza corner kick. The two sides continued to create chances till Uganda’s goalkeeper Charles Lukwago made a judgement error to give Tubal chance to slot in Somalia’s only goal.“I am happy that we have won by a big margin. But we need to be more cautious in the next round,” said Uganda Cranes coach Abudallah Mubiru after the game. Somalia’s coach Bashir Hayford said he was disappointed with the performance of his team. Uganda will now wait to play the winner between South Sudan and Burundi in the final phase of the qualifiers.
